Established in 1950 in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio, Blue Rock Shorthorns began. Through three generations the Bates Family has strived to produce quality Shorthorn cattle with an emphasis on structural integrity, balance, eye appeal and show ring presence without sacrificing relevance to the commercial sector of the industry.

Today, the Bates family travels to shows and sales across the country to promote and market their focus of shorthorn cattle with the premonition of bettering the breed and industry for years to come. The Bates' have utilized artificial insemination and embryo transfer in efforts to project the operation to greater heights. The Bates Family welcomes visitors to inspect the stock and discuss the Shorthorn breed.
